Some local Tops supermarkets may have closed a little earlier than some people expected.
The chain, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year, has now closed stores at 710 Lake Avenue and on North Winton Road in Rochester as well as another store on Pittsford Palmyra Road in Perinton.
Originally, Tops said the stores would close by the end of November.
A company spokeswoman says that in order to comply with the court filing, Tops had to remove equipment and prepare the buildings to be turned over to the landlords before the end of November and they need some time to do that. Tops says the workers at the stores were notified for several weeks about the closing dates.
Tops is also closing stores in Lyons and Geneva. Altogether, the company previously announced that 10 underperforming stores would close as part of efforts to restructure and emerge from Chapter 11.
