It's been a great week on the Innovation Trail.

Thanks for taking a hike with us here on the Innovation Trail.  Here's a briefing on some of our best work this week.

Dan Bazile reported a story about wind turbines helping ski resorts save on their power bills.  That video will be available on New York NOW's website.

Emma Jacobs had a coupleof storiesabout investment by federal, state and local agencies.  A new manufacturing facility in Binghamton will create 65 jobs for technicians making can lids.  Here's the twist on the traditional outsourcing narrative: an international company is locating in New York.  Emma also brought us our first "ask a trail guide" post, where she helped a reader figure out how to get well water tested in advance of hydrofracking.  Have a question for a trail guide?  Ask it.

Ryan Morden reminds us that he's hosting an Innovation Conversation next week, about the state of the green economy.  Join him live at 7 p.m. at the SUNY-Oswego Metrocenter in downtown Syracuse, or tune in on our collaborating stations in the coming weeks.

Daniel Robison has been following the money as Niagara County tries to woo Verizon's newest data center.  The county approved a big tax break this week, on top of deals for cheap power and rezoning.  But Verizon says it still wants to see changes in the way New York treats businesses, before it makes its decision.  Daniel also wrote about criticisms of the "Green Jobs Green New York" program from community groups in Buffalo.

Zack Seward brought us a look at vermicomposting (that's composting using worms).  He also brought us details about the latest round of high-speed rail hearings.  New York has volunteered to take over rail money that Wisconsin's new governor is rejecting, to fund its corridor between Albany and NYC.
