A promoter of the buy local movement in Syracuse will hold a regional summit next month to promote local business and encourage entrepreneurs to set up shop.

Syracuse First announced The New Economy Summit at a press conference Monday. It will be held May 22 at the Genesee Grand hotel in Syracuse.

Syracuse First founder Chris Fowler says it will focus on growing the local economy in a different way.

The summit will be both inspirational and "aspirational," he says.

"If I’m a business owner, an entrepreneur, I’m going to learn some new tools to leverage this movement we call the local economy movement," he says. "How do I strengthen my presence in the market? How do I strengthen my brand through building relationships with other locally owned, independent businesses?"

The half day summit will include several keynote speakers, including Judy Wicks, the co-founder of the original Free People's Store, now known as Urban Outfitters.

A reception featuring local drink makers called Local Thirst will take place after.
