Buffalo council moves against fracking
Buffalo's common council has come out against hydrofracking, even though it's unlikely that the natural gas extraction technique would be used there, according to the Buffalo News.  The Innovation Trail's Daniel Robison has also reported on how the issue is polarizing people in WNY, far away from rich natural gas deposits in the Southern Tier.

New Navy contract for LM
Lockheed Martin has nabbed more contracts for Navy helicopters, following last week's announcement.  The Press & Sun-Bulletin reports that the latest round of funding, for $72.6 million, will also go to build components:

The latest Navy contract calls for 24 mission avionics systems and common cockpits for MH-60R helicopters, as well as 18 common cockpits for the MH-60S. Twenty-six percent of the work will be handled at Lockheed's facility in Owego, with the remainder to be handled at other locales, including Horseheads and Farmingdale, according to the Department of Defense.

Cuomo heads to Jamestown
The governor is hitting the road to "connect" with voters.  First stop: Jamestown, according to the Buffalo News:

"I don't subscribe to the theory that I go through the Legislature to the people. I represent the people. The people voted for me directly ... I want a direct relationship," Cuomo said. The governor said he will make stops in a half-dozen communities in the weeks ahead after his Jamestown speech on a tour designed to hit communities that "feel the most disconnected" from Albany.

Beverage workers back on the job
Some workers who lost jobs at a Buffalo-area manufacturing plant are getting them back - just with a different firm.  Rich Products Corp. has transferred a closed facility to Island Oasis, which is hiring 90 workers, reports the Buffalo News.

Legislators cash out
The Times Union has a look at falling per diem rates for legislators.  They're now trying to eat and sleep in Albany on $6 less than they're accustomed to - but it's till $165 a day.  Rachael Ray could have a field day with that.
