WATCH: Will the Clean Power Plan threaten the grid's reliability?

Forty percent of America's power comes from coal. On August 3, President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency rolled out the Clean Power Plan, a set of new regulations and emissions goals aimed at power plants.

To meet the EPA's new standards, states will need to invest in efficiency and cleaner, renewable energy sources. Under the new rules, power plants will likely swap out coal for wind, solar and natural gas... And that has some who deal in the energy sector- grid operators, lawmakers, and especially the coal industry-piling on to the idea that this transition will destabilize our power grid. Inside Energy's Leigh Paterson reports as part of a collaboration between Innovation Trail and other Local Journalism Centers.
