Erie Community College signed an agreement with St. John Fisher College Monday that allows students to be directly admitted into St. John Fisher, located outside of Rochester.

The 2+2 transfer articulation agreement requires students to complete their associate’s degree at ECC and continue their coursework at St. John Fisher, where they can earn a bachelor’s degree from most programs in an additional two years.

The agreement links 32 programs at St. John Fisher College with five programs at ECC. Those programs include nursing, business administration, communication and media arts, liberal arts and science, and general studies.

ECC Executive Vice President of Academics Richard Washousky says students enrolled in the 2+2 program will be mentored by both schools to prevent repetition in coursework.

"It gives that parent and child an opportunity to map out, financially, their education and obviously a chance to choose the right college degree that they want to enter," said Washousky.

Washousky says ECC already has similar agreements with 35 other schools across New York State.

“The key of these articulation agreements is that the student is making a pathway choice while they are already enrolled at ECC,” said Washousky

Erie Community College is also working to create a 2+3 articulation agreement that would allow students to start at ECC, then move on to receive their bachelor's and then master's degrees at other schools within three years. Washousky says so far, St. Bonaventure and Canisius College are interested.
