As reported by the Innovation Trail's Ryan Delaney yesterday, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has announced that $14.6 million dollars would be distributed amongst 30 SUNY college campuses to enhance worker training and education with a view to helping fill gaps in the skilled labor market. (WSJ).
Senator Schumer is quoted by The Post-Standardas saying that he anticipates 3,000 New Yorkers would be trained with the grants also expected to leverage an additional $25 million in additional funding for the programs from private companies and other grants.
Monroe, Genesee and Erie Community Colleges are amongst the Western New York colleges to benefit from the funding which is being coordinated by Monroe Community College in Rochester.
Schumer's also teamed up with Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) to propose an act that would make an additional 55,000 green cards available to foreign graduates of U.S. universities with degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) streams.
