It's earnings season for some, losses season for others.

M&T Bank Corp. picked up a 37 percent gain over the previous year, in the first quarter, reports Matt Daneman at the Democrat and Chronicle.

Gannett, which publishes the Democrat and Chronicle, the Press & Sun-Bulletin, and the Ithaca Journal, among other upstate papers, lost 37 cents a share, or 23 percent, in the first quarter, reports AP.

Quad/Graphics is closing its printing plant in Depew, outside Buffalo, reports the Buffalo News.  That'll mean that 400 jobs will be lost by the end of the year.  Quad/Graphics is boosting its West Virginia operations.

HSBC is trimming around 65 jobs across western New York, also according to the Buffalo News, as it rejiggers customer service positions.
