Michael Strano of MIT is teaching plants to detect bombs using their natural ability to react to particles in the air. Referencing the Boston Marathon bombing, Strano shows how plants could be used to prevent future attacks to not only detect bombs in public places but also generate their own power source and emit their own light.
The marathon bombing served as a reminder as to how unsafe public events can be and encouraged the making of new green, self-sustaining technology to help future terrorist acts from happening.
