The Associated Press is reporting that New York senate Democrats want to work on job creation before the legislative session ends in a few weeks:
New York's Senate Democrats will unveil a late-session jobs program that they hope to fund with savings from budget cuts. The jobs bill aims to create jobs, protect the unemployed from discrimination, provide training and promote the alternative energy job market. The bills will be released at a news conference late Thursday morning in Albany.
Watchdog group calls out Monroe County executive
David Andreatta of The Democrat and Chronicle reports that Monroe County Executive, Maggie Brooks, got an open letter yesterday from a watchdog group criticizing her for failing to act on their recommendation to replace the board of the Monroe County airport authority:
The county two weeks ago responded dismissively to a scathing report on Airport Authority operations issued by the Authorities Budget Office, which found that the board could not act independently from county government and had a long history of lax oversight.
Not everyone happy with tax cap
Governor Cuomo's property tax cap deal with legislators might be a political success for his agenda, but not everyone is thrilled.
Dozens of tax cap opponents were in Albany yesterday, according to a report from Jon Campbell of The Democrat and Chronicle:
A few dozen people representing school boards, tax-relief groups, counties and other local governments showed up in Albany on Wednesday and joined a handful of Assembly members in bashing the cap and pushing for its rejection.
