"Information please!" says the DEC, which wants more details on a proposed underground gas storage facility in the Finger Lakes region.

Is not saying “yes” or “no” the same as “maybe?”

That’s apparently what the New York Department of Environment Conservation (DEC) is trying to communicate with its latest action regarding a proposed underground gas storage facility near Seneca Lake. According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:

[The DEC] has withheld its approval of the draft environmental impact statement for [the facility] … until the document is revised to include several recommendations from the state agency.

So, that means Inergy Midstream LLC – the outfit wishing to build the project – will go back to the drawing board to give the DEC what it wants. The Kansas City-based company says those changes could be turned in by the end of the week. Then,

When the additional information is received and if it satisfies the DEC's requirements, the impact statement will then be presented for public review and comments before any permits for the construction of the $40 million facility can proceed.

Propane and butane would be pumped into depleted salt caverns on a nearly 600 acre parcel. The proposed project has aroused the ire of environments.
