Environmental chief talks hydrofracking

In case you missed it over the weekend, we've uploaded the full New York NOW interview with New York's Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner, Joe Martens.

This was his first TV interview since his agency issuedits latest environmental impact report on how it plans to regulate the natural gas drilling industry here.

Martens sat down with Karen DeWitt of NYS Public Radio, to talk about New York's hydrofracking issues, including:

  • Timetable: When will permits be issued?
  • Safety: Problems in Pennsylvania, and concerns about chemicals in fracking fluid
  • Fairness: Why is fracking banned in NYC and Syracuse watersheds?
  • Economics: What are the positive implications of the industry?
