Farmers helping farmers upstate

To the rest of the world New York is a city, an urban jungle of towering skyscrapers and international culture. But north of the city, New York, the state, is a vast array agricultural enterprises. Farming is and has always been integral to the state economy and a group of young farmers in the Catskills are working together to help each other sustain their new businesses.

New York state is shaping up to be a key decider in the debate over labeling foods that contain genetically modified ingredients as a labeling law is becoming one of the final debates of the state legislative session.

A bill requiring foods to be marked as scientifically engineered is under debate in the state Legislature, after being approved by an Assembly committee.
