There are a number of jobs coming to the Rochester area in the next few years as the result of two local projects announced in recent days.

One of the projects involves a Philadelphia-based cybersecurity firm called Security Risk Advisors, which will add a branch in Rochester and create  up to 67 new jobs over the next five years. Company Director Mike Pinch has ties to Rochester, he is from the area and has done work for the University of Rochester and also did some teaching at RIT.

And he said that it’s the availability of people in the university community that helped the company decide they wanted to locate an office here.

“One of the things we found is that the talent availability in Rochester is second to none with RIT and the U of R and some of the other organizations in town here. We found a large percentage of our employees, even down in the Philadelphia area, have a background from RIT, or U of R or other area schools,” Pinch said.

Security Risk Advisors is opening an office at the Culver Road Armory. Empire State Development has offered up to $900,000 through the Excelsior Jobs Program to help with the $11.5 million expansion.

Matt Hurlbutt is President and CEO for Greater Rochester Enterprise. He says that organization is trying to attract more knowledge-based businesses and industries.

“Especially for innovative companies and software information technology as well as optics, photonics, imaging, and so many others, food and beverage, manufacturing, and we’re in an innovative  opportunity now; knowledge-based companies like these are growing and they should be looking at Rochester as they expand,” Hurlbutt said.

Another project involves the former Sam’s Club building in Henrietta.  A New Jersey based medical equipment company, called Cantel Medical will be putting in a regional distribution facility there; along with expansion of Cantel’s current manufacturing site located in Rush, the company expects to add about 100 jobs over the next three years.
